Bear Fence Mountain, Shenandaoh National Park

This is mine and Madeline's favorite dayhike in SNP; we have been there at least a dozen time now. The circuit is only about a mile and a half long and there are no serious inclines, but it has a fantastic rock scramble with great views of the Shenadoah Valley and beyond. We have hiked Bear Fence in all four seasons (the first time we came there was snow and ice on the ground), but autumn is my favorite time to be there.
I really enjoy hiking with Madeline; she very rarely complains and she talks non-stop. I really learn more about her life when we are hiking than at any other time.

Bear Fence Mountain, Oct 15

View to the west. The Blue Ridge are in the foreground, the darker line is Massanutten Mountain and the light blue line in the distance is South Mountain. That's where West Virginia starts.

The summit of Bear Fence.

Guess what? More pictures of the girls.

Molly discovered some pink star post-it notes. Apparently Emma needed a few of them.

Maybe she needs dentures...

Resting after a hard afternoon's work of reseeding the front yard.
